June 24 2014 Tuesday- BREAKING:U.S. Archivist to House Committee: IRS Didn't Follow the Law

The IRS recently informed Congress that a whole chunk of Lois Lerner's e-mails were lost because of hard drive failure. During last night's big IRS hearing, Republicans were outraged over the IRS not informing them of the lost e-mails right away, but instead sitting on the information for a while, and today they brought the official United States archivist, David Ferriero, before the House Oversight and Investigations Committee to address the legality of this issue.
Congressman Tim Walberg brought up how federal agencies are supposed to inform the U.S. archivist of any unauthorized destruction of federal records and asked, "At any time in 2011 through last Monday, did the IRS report any loss of any records related to Lois Lerner?" Ferriero said they did not.

Walberg continued to ask Ferriero whether the IRS violated the law by not reporting the loss of these e-mails. Ferriero replied, "They did not follow the law."

June 24 2014 Tuesday-Fox News Anchor Gregg Jarrett Fighting with Airport Cops

Last month, Fox anchor Gregg Jarrett was arrested in a Minnesota airport bar for public intoxication after the network announced that he was taking time off for personal reasons.

The Minnesota State Airport Police released Jarrett’s incident report, as well as video of Jarrett brawling with police officers at the airport, to Gawker after they filed a FOIA request. According to the report, Jarrett had recently been released from a alcohol and chemical dependency program, but had consumed one glass of vodka along with an anti-epileptic known as Gabapentin immediately prior to his arrest.

After they brought him to a holding cell to be evaluated by health officials, officer Mark Dorsey reported that Jarrett grew belligerent, telling him “This is all your fault,” and calling him a “fucking stupid ass.” He then apparently grabbed at Dorsey and the firefighter multiple times, and was immediately thrown into a hold by Dorsey, who then yells at him for resisting.

This post originally said the Minnesota State Police released the video. It was actually the Minnesota State Airport Police

Fournier to CNN: ‘I Was Naive’ to Give Obama Benefit of the Doubt on IRS

Almost exactly one year ago, National Journal editorial director Ron Fournier called for a special prosecutor in the IRS investigation while giving the Obama administration the “benefit of the doubt.” Now, following several hearings in which the IRS has defended the loss of Lois Lerner’s emails, Fournier regrets trusting the White House.

“A year ago exactly tomorrow I called for a special prosecutor in this case while giving the president the benefit of the doubt,” he told CNN’s John King. “I now realize how naive I was to give the administration the benefit of the doubt. This needs to be investigated by an independent prosecutor.” Congress has now held several dramatic interrogations of IRS Commissioner John Koskinen over Lerner’s missing emails. Associated Press White House correspondent Julie Pace added that even if the lost emails represented no sinister intent, the IRS wasn’t exactly acting apologetic to a public that doesn’t yet believe its story.

Scarborough Goes off on NY Times for Running Christie Story over IRS: ‘This Is a Scam’

June 24 2014 Tuesday- Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough lit into the New York Times Tuesday morning for running a front page story about a possible second Chris Christie bridge scandal when he felt the IRS investigation was a far more pressing issue, calling the Times’ news priorities a “scam” and alleging that it was indicative of why conservatives don’t trust national news outlets.
“Is it possible that the New York Times and Washington Post are not putting on the front page of their newspapers the fact that an internal investigation has been launched against the IRS on the most shady behavior, and yet they put the Pulaski sky bridge whatever on page A-1?” Scarborough asked. “This is garbage.”

“This really is a scam,” Scarborough continued. “This is why conservatives don’t trust national newspapers. It’s why they don’t trust broadcast news. There’s a double standard and you can see it on every broadcast. You can see it on the front page of every major newspaper. This is why we don’t trust the national news outlets, because they are so biased and slanted. It’s not the news that they run, even though this is a joke of a story to put on the front page here. It’s the stories they don’t run. It’s the omissions, the acts of omissions when Democrats are in power. It’s stunning.”
Former Bush administration official Nicolle Wallace found the IRS story on page A19 of the Times

 June 18 2014 wed-CNN Guest: Point of Cheney’s Anti-Obama Op-Ed Was to Rehabilitate Daughter

After Dick and Liz Cheney’s op-ed in the Wall Street Journal last night excoriating President Barack Obama’s foreign policy in the wake of the deteriorating situation in Iraq, CNN’s John King asked if the Republicans really wanted the Bush team “leading the charge” on this issue given their history with it.

The New York Times’ Jonathan Martin suggested the op-ed served a more personal function for Cheney: the political rehabilitation of his daughter following an aborted Senate bid. “The party wants to look to the future,” Martin said. “However, the Cheney family wants to look to the future, too, which is the point of that op-ed. It’s about helping out Liz Cheney, get her more of a platform, so she can start a political comeback of her own. This is less about Barack Obama or Dick Cheney; it’s about Liz Cheney and the next generation.” “It’s also about Rand Paul, by the way,” Martin added (the Pauls and Cheneys have beef). “This is about asserting the role of the hawks in their coalition, in their party, and making sure 2016 they nominate a hawk.”
